Cats and Dogs, a Magazine Devoted to Companion Animals was founded in 2006. It is a free publication distributed in West Michigan.
The mission of Cats and Dogs is to celebrate the human-animal relationship through entertaining and educational articles. And to help find homes for the countless number of animals waiting for new families.
One of our goals is to bring awareness to local animal rescue organizations and the hard-working volunteers who dedicate countless hours and resources to helping homeless animals. Another goal is to bring awareness to pet overpopulation and encourage people to spay and neuter their cats and dogs.
In 2007, 2,524 dogs and puppies and 7,048 cats and kittens were euthanized in the three animal shelters/humane societies in Kent and Ottawa Counties. That equals 7 dogs and 19 cats every day–including weekends and holidays. These numbers do not include owner-requested euthanasia.
In 2009, 2,432 dogs and puppies and 6,751 cats and kittens were euthanized in the same three shelters/humane societies.
Cats and Dogs is made possible by its advertisers and the sponsors of rescue groups and shelters.
